Officeworks makes local connections during bushfire relief
The devastating bushfires over December and January affected many local communities across the country. Officeworks focused its support on helping students, schools and families, working closely with national partners, The Smith Family and the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation, to identify the best way to help.
Officeworks saw communities across Australia come together with its teams during this challenging time to help those who needed it most.
One example of this was the Pens Down fundraising day on 24 January 2020. Over 300 team members from the Officeworks East Bentleigh Support Office, Geeks2U and Wesfarmers corporate office ventured into stores to lend a hand and raise funds for the Officeworks Bushfire Relief.
With the generous support of customers, Officeworks raised over $152,000 for its national partners who used the donations to help families and students in bushfire affected communities. The introduction of workplace giving also saw 100 team members donate directly to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Recovery Relief fund. Officeworks matched all team member and customer donations to bring the total contribution to $334,000.
Across its network, many Officeworks stores displayed support at a local level, identifying opportunities to help communities facing hardship. The team in the Nowra store were directly impacted by the fires and faced their own challenges at home and work. Despite these challenges, the team worked with the local SES to source essential supplies such as water, milk and school supplies for families in the region.
