When Chairman Walter Harper took the farmer co-operative into the superphosphate business, he realised it made sense to work with established producers Cuming Smith and Mt Lyell.

Westralian Farmers Superphosphates Limited was formed to take a one-third interest in a new three-way joint venture. The newly formed Cuming Smith & Mt Lyell Farmer Fertilisers generated large savings to farmers in the price of fertiliser.
