Wesfarmers takes on the Ride for Youth challenge

Wesfarmers sponsored two teams in this year’s Ride for Youth fundraising bike ride. Supporters got behind the Wesfarmers teams, with more than $100,000 donated and contributed to the cause.

The Ride for Youth is held annually in March. A major fundraising initiative for Youth Focus, riders cover more than 700 kilometres on their way from Albany or Geraldton to Perth in Western Australia. On their journey, the riders stop at high schools to engage the students in the issues of youth suicide, depression and self-harm and the services that Youth Focus provide.
This year, Wesfarmers sponsored two teams in the event, both completing the inaugural mid-west route from Geraldton to Perth. Wesfarmers Finance Director, Terry Bowen, and Vin Gleeson, General Manager of Human Resources, trained for almost six months to be ready for the five-day event. A highlight was their visits to the Clontarf Academies in Geraldton and Northam. Clontarf is also a major partner of Wesfarmers, and connecting with its students during the journey was an added bonus for Terry and Vin.
